Dem Iz Who (The Saga of Poor Dem ova Blessed We)
Share
Inspired by a word from my mother. Dem Iz Who is all about showing up as YOU regardless of WHO may or may not approve. To thine own self and thine own destiny be true!
This poem came to me in a dream one night in 2016. I was on a business trip and one of my (then) colleagues seemed to have a major issue with my existence. After trying repeatedly to diffuse the situation in a professional manner, I was valiantly fighting the urge to go full "scorpio". I was especially upset because I knew that the attacks were unwarranted and undeserved. It was one of those times when I wished that I could be anyone except the woman my mama and daddy raised me to be so that I could "deal" with the issue on a lower, less-evolved level. I went to bed missing my mother, and, as I slept, It was like I could hear her voice "don't worry, God will take care of them."
I woke up with the poem and the illustration in my head. Up to that point I had never really used my Adobe software to create original art. I still don't know how I did it, but by breakfast I had a smile on my face, a vision in my mind, and a .psd file on my laptop.
